The Challenge | Internet on the Ocean

The internet is not easily accessible in many areas of the world, like the Earth’s oceans. Fishermen, sailors, and others have limited data connection with the rest of the world. Although satellite internet is widely available, it is very expensive for a user to implement. Your challenge is to design a low-cost method of delivering internet to people located far away on the ocean.

RESCUEBOTS

is a set of devices connected to each other through a mesh network, creating a coverage area of up to 90 km of radius per device.


Introduction

Intenet is neede for everyone and everywhere. The vast majority of people on the ocean cannot stay connected with land. Internet can be provided in only certain areas in the planet by some satellites. But this solution is not accessible for everyone due to high cost associated with the satellite connectivity. What is more, the user equipment and data plan are high cost.



Solution:

To deal with this problem we created an RESCUEBOT, a gadget that can provide the internet through the ocean by a network system.



How does it work?

There are pendulums located on coasts with ESP8266 WIFI Modules that spend wifi signals with the radius of 5 km to the LoRa Module. The LoRa Module helps to increase the distance range to 90 km.

RESCUEBOTS, which are located on the ocean, catch the WIFI from the LoRa Module and send it to each other creating a network system that provides the internet through the ocean.

RESCUEBOTS can save drowning people.



How does it work?

Lifeguards and passing by using the special application, will send commands and mark where the advent occurred and then our bot will swim to a drowning person and call rescuers. Also RESCUEBOTS will be equipped with a first aid kit for people who were injured.

Types of energy

RESCUEBOT will work from two pure energy:

• Solar energy

Wind energy

Due to the fact that the device has two power sources, they provide the device to function in any weather conditions. When the weather is sunny, it will be powered by solar energy, and when the weather is windy, it will be powered by wind energy.
