The Challenge | Rising Water
Sea levels are rising around the world, and approximately 40% of the human population lives in coastal zones. Your challenge is to help communicate the impacts of rising oceans by creating a visualization tool that illustrates the changes caused by rising sea levels in your region.
Fathom
When will your area be affected by the rising sea level? An easy to use app that lets you look at the history of the sea levels and see future predictions on where the sea level will be based on how we continue to tackle pollution.

By performing a second degree polynomial regression on the dataset, we used the confidence bands to serve as our minimum and maximum predictions of the rise in sea level. In the app, this is reflected by a slider which interpolated between them. From there, we subtract the change in sea level from the current elevation of a chosen location, by postal code, to get the predicted elevation for a given year. We then show what it would look like in the app in a fun engaging way.
