Espiral has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Why did we choose the challenge?
Not only for NASA Space Apps Challenger 2019, we chose this challenge because we are facing an ongoing environmental disaster in our world, and our oceans receive about 12 million tons of waste each year, presenting many ecosystem problems. With that in mind, we believe in the spiral that it is possible to develop fast and efficient standalone equipment, capable of collecting in a short time and a large volume of floating waste located on the 5 garbage islands, and with this waste generates income for thousands of families.
How important is the sea in maintaining terrestrial life?
According to the Infonet website, the oceans are of great ecological, economic, political and sociocultural importance. They are responsible for climate regulation, food, leisure, transportation and income generation. Therefore, the oceans are fundamental to the survival of the human species and all living beings on the planet. For an idea, approximately 2/3 of the world's population currently lives less than 50 km from the sea (UN-UNESCO). This territorial strip corresponds to less than 2% of the terrestrial territory and houses a population of just over 4 billion people. Brazilians follow this worldwide trend of occupation of coastal areas, where about 50 million people, or 1/4 of the country's inhabitants, live in municipalities of the Brazilian coastal zone (IBGE). Oceans cover over 70% of Earth's surface,
Value offer
The self-cleaning technology developed by Espiral works with its main corrective action, through measures taken to cause damage or incidents in the oceans, having as its main focus the removal of garbage found in garbage islands, and has a great environmental impact that affects the environment. environment. entire marine ecosystem, causing environmental, economic, social and cultural problems. The technology provides for the disposal of marine waste more efficiently and without harming the environment, allowing the inheritance of various marine species and reducing animal and human disease.
Products and services
Our product is designed to collect large amounts of waste without any environmental impact. We propose a standalone equipment made of polymeric material acquired by the recycling process, composed of sensors to differentiate what is alive and not, and its product composition has an opening so that marine animals are not captured. In addition, we have a by-product, by sorting the collected garbage, which is selected and compacted on our strategically installed platform near the garbage islands, which also provides technical support. The by-product will be plastic filaments, separation of other compounds and data selling.
Growth Strategies
- invest in environmental education;
- Invest in nanotechnology-focused research to collect (even more lethal) nanoplastics.
Our Pillars
As we show in our logo, our main pillars are the three pillars that govern sustainability: the economic, the environmental and the social, interconnected, because we believe that only in this way can the world guarantee a true quality of life.
Spiral: More than a clean, a second chance for you to start over.
