The Challenge | Trash Cleanup

Oceanic garbage patches are collections of marine debris that come together due to ocean currents; they have devastating effects on ocean ecosystems. Your challenge is to design a mission to help clean up garbage from the ocean!

Maik

Maik is an intelligent sorting machine that protects the environment from the waste produced on the coast by giving points to users who correctly deposit their materials on it.

Project: MAIK

Team: MIKE

Chosen Challenge: THE CHALLENGE | TRASH CLEANUP

MAIK (image1)

It is an intelligent sorting machine that protects the environment from the waste produced on the coast by giving points to users who correctly deposit their materials on it.

Objectives:

Reduce improper disposal of materials produced on the coast by preventing such waste from reaching seas, rivers and oceans.

Encourage and make the population aware of their waste selection process.

Facilitate the collection and recycling process.

Bonus users through points that can be exchanged for benefits at partner establishments.

MAIK Journey

  • MAIK digital interface (image 2)

  • Will go through a login or registration process

    To register you must provide:

    - full name

    - desired login access

    - password

    - e-mail address

Once approved in these steps you should choose the material you want to deposit in MAIK:

    - Plastic

    - Glass

    - Paper

    - Metal

Shortly thereafter, it will be indicated by the interface and a light scheme will show in which of the four entries the material should be deposited.

Once deposited, this material will be verified by an infrared spectroscopy scanner, which should indicate if that residue corresponds to the chemical composition chosen at the interface.

Once verified and disapproved, the material must be collected by the user and he will have the option to continue or not the procedure, if they want to try again, they must choose the material again and repeat the process, if they choose not to continue, the machine finishes the operation.

Once verified and approved, this material will be weighed, and the corresponding weight of the selected material will be converted into points for the user, which can be exchanged for benefits at partner establishments.

After receiving your score, the interface will offer the user the option to repeat the process choosing the residue or finishing the operation.

All collected waste will be selected and stored in its specific compartment, four compartments in total, which may be removed separately by MAIK Agents by the time the machine reaches this compartment's weight limit, preventing more users from depositing in this session.

The collected material will then be directed to partner recycling companies or cooperatives that will dispose of this waste for proper reuse.

    • MAIK app

The app will be available for download from the App Store or Google Play.

It will go through a login or registration process.
