Scientists recently unveiled a nano-wires fabric capable of absorbing up to 20 times its weight in oil which work as the cell membrane as it absorbs the hydrophobic liquids only without water. These hydrophobic liquids such as oil in the ocean the fabric could absorb them. Then the fabric can be heated so the oil can be removed. Once the oil is removed, the nano-wires mesh can be recycled again and again in constant process. The nano-wires mesh is so thin that the fabric looks and feels like paper. That will also help the beaches to reduce oil pollution on it by preventing the oil to arrive and clean it from the oceans.
Value proposition:
- Local people lose their livelihoods as fishers and tourism areas are temporarily closed because of issue of oil spills in marine. Tens of thousands of marine animals and plants are killed or harmed.
- We also help to reduce the oil pollution on the beaches by prevent before it arrives to the beaches and also reduce the oil crisis damage
- There’s also the problem of the oil that goes down with the ship, which can contaminate the seabed and marine organisms.
- It is estimated that approximately 706 million gallons of waste oil enter the ocean every year.
Our device aims to skimming and removing the oil spills from marine using new methods and strategies:
- A new nano-fabric wires will be used to absorb the hydrophobic liquid like oil without water. This thin fabric mesh will be used to absorb up to twenty times its own weight in oil while repelling water.
- The device uses solar panels for self-propulsion by generating electricity from renewable source of energy (sun light).
- The vehicle works rather like a rolling carpet riding over waves, skimming water surface.
- The belt cycles through the vehicle’s head where the oil is heated to separate it from the mesh.
- The removed oil will be stored in floating tanks which could collect oil later for reuse, like boat buoy.
- The robots would coordinate their work through GPS and WIFI, creating an organized system for collection that can work continuously without human support as it will find the outer edges of an oil spill and work its way into the center.
- Creating an application that can determine the movements of vehicle and the amount of collected and reused oil.
- Container will be attached to the device using cone and tunnel to collect the oil from the nano fabric carpet
