The Challenge | Trash Cleanup

Oceanic garbage patches are collections of marine debris that come together due to ocean currents; they have devastating effects on ocean ecosystems. Your challenge is to design a mission to help clean up garbage from the ocean!

Deep

We want to give resources to people all over the world who face the challenges of an oil spill out to protect their enviroment, their homes, their jobs and ecossystem.

Sea Spine

The ideia of the project is to create an accessible oil collector for oil spill outs like the one we are seen nowdays in Brasil. The device basically floats right above water level, what means right bellow oil level, making it flow in by gravity. Being the thickness of the oil sheet small, around 1 mm, a small cup volume can clean an great area of sea water (approximatedly 28 square meters). The entire project is made to be as cheap and easy to build as possible. It can be entirely made in a fablab, or in a local workshop. It uses basically wood or ABS green and rope. It has a conical shape, so they can be easilly stacked, easily mounted, deployed and operated in the simplest of the boats by people of all ages and instruction levels. That's also why it is made fully analogycal and has no eletronical components.
