Goal
Design a strategy game that helps people recognize natural disasters from satellite images and realize the balance between economic development and environmental protection.
Motivation
These years, people are always protesting the government for not taking responsibility for environmental protection, letting industrial activities generate lots of pollution. However, no one faces up to pollution from their jobs but instead accepts their pay and takes it for granted.
So, we tried to design a game about balancing economic development and environmental protection with sudden events, letting people pay attention to the relationship with Earth.
Approaches
- Develop an application using Python with pygame.
- Capture images from NASA Worldview as event pictures, such as wildfire, typhoon, etc.
- Combine the game with global climates, issues, and phenomena, such as drought and storm.
- Define the rules and adjust balanced game parameters.
Game Rules
- There are five resources in the game: air, water, plant, electricity, and money.
- Each resource includes current storage and trend.
- The game ends when the player runs out of air, water or money.
- In each round, the player should choose an action from the six items.
- Sometimes the player may encounter the special events, which may cause dramatic changes.

Problem Faced
- Unfamiliar with different types of data : .nc, .bz2
- Unfamiliar with NASA data storage websites
- Lack of domain knowledge, like Geo-sciences and atmospheric science.
