The Challenge | From Curious Minds Come Helping Hands

Your challenge is to design and build an innovative platform to integrate satellite data and information about vulnerable populations and environmental hazards in order to identify the most at-risk populations. Be creative and think outside the box. How will you identify those people that are often missed, but need aid the most?

Our project is a post disaster aid solution to establish communication between victims, first responders and disaster management entities like government organisations, NGOs, etc.

Our project is a post disaster aid solution to establish communication between victims, first responders and disaster management entities like government organisations, NGOs, etc. We do this by using a dedicated system built on top of an IoT solution that essentially serves as a pager. The IoT device is essentially a one-way communication device, that is capable of receiving data from the respective sources. The device has a long battery life and can be used for a long time, in addition, the device is very rugged capable of being airdropped in disaster-struck areas. The IoT devices are connected amongst themselves in a mesh network so in the event one is to fail another route is always available for critical information to pass through to the victims. The disaster management entities are the only ones capable of having access to the system to send messages to IoT devices. They can send status reports, first aid advice etc essentially information that could be the difference between life or death to a victim.
