The Challenge | From Curious Minds Come Helping Hands

Your challenge is to design and build an innovative platform to integrate satellite data and information about vulnerable populations and environmental hazards in order to identify the most at-risk populations. Be creative and think outside the box. How will you identify those people that are often missed, but need aid the most?

Infinite Reach

An interactive platform connecting curious people that want to help vulnerable populations.

Remote Controllers

BACKGROUND:

Hi we’re the remote controllers and together we designed and built infinite reach, a prototype platform for people curious about our planet and the changeable living conditions on it.

Our vision is an interactive graphic platform filled with critical, predictive and interesting information from all over the world presented in a clear and user friendly way. The platform integrates practical suggestions as well as connections to local support groups and NGOs so that curious people who want to give a helping hand can find all the relevant and current information in one place.

WHAT IT DOES:

  • Our solution provides global information to those people that want to help those in need.
  • PROBLEM: integration of satellite data and getting the help to where it is needed the most.
  • SOLUTION: Prototype of an innovative live graphic platform showing:
1.the status of environmental hazards and vulnerable populations across the globe and actions being taken in these areas (ie.: in South Sudan: information about: leading famine indicators, active humanitarian assistance, political and economic situations),
    2. Transparent action plans and opportunities to help in these areas by anyone interested.
  • LEARNING: We first made a concept for a software that would use machine learning and artificial intelligence, that would calculate the probability of famine at a certain location, but NASA FEWS NET does this and it has some predictability functions already. The same system can be used for other types of environmental hazards and vulnerable populations.

NASA RESOURCES:

We used these resources to research what data is available and how it can be displayed in more appropriate ways.

SPACE APPS OFFERS USED:

  • NEUSTAR: Porkbun for our web page
  • MICROSOFT AZURE MACHINE LEARNING STUDIO: for data processing
  • SENTINEL HUB: for data acquisition

FUTURE PLANS:

The project can evolve by creating an actual platform that would use NASA data and provide steps anyone can take to help those in vulnerable situations.

BUILT WITH:

  • Github for colaboration and version control and hosting
  • Atom text editor
  • Microsoft powerpoint
  • Windows movie maker
  • Cell phone for video
  • Google docs
  • Gimp foto editor
