Smart Collect teve como desafio o gerenciamento da água para redução de riscos, dessa forma, o problema abordado foi a inundação em zonas urbanas. A solução idealizada pelo grupo consiste no desenvolvimento de um filtro com sensor para bueiros com o intuito de ampliar o fluxo de água na rede pluvial durante chuvas intensas. Nesse sentido, será realizado o cruzamento de informações coletadas dos filtros, com dados ja existentes, tais como declividade, densidade demográfica, características socioeconômicas, e tipo de região (residencial, comercial); Com relação a base de dados da NASA, a Smart Collect se referenciou nos seguintes mapas de predição pluviométrica: "Global Flood Monitoring System (GFMS) e o Near Real Time (NRT) Modis Flood Mapping". O valor agregado para a população reside no decaimento do número de inundações; diminuição na propagação de doenças e diminuição dos prejuízos pessoais (imóvel, automóvel, vida), a asseguradora se beneficia com a queda das indenizações com inundações, aumentando assim sua lucratividade e o Estado, por sua vez, apresentará menor gasto com infraestrutura de recuperação pás catástrofe, além de melhora na saúde e aumento de dados para futuros planejamentos urbanísticos.
