You are a newly appointed Regional Green Engineer. Your challenge is to develop green infrastructure solutions for complex challenges in water management and risk reduction.Create a tool to assess the characteristics of an urban or rural area of your choice, and integrate green infrastructures, or nature-based solutions, into that region’s development plans to1) reduce flood and/or drought risk2) establish sustainable land use practices3) support water management, and/or 4) produce local economic opportunities.

OUR IDEA PLAN

We collected data’s through the primary sources such as seeking the opinions and views of each individual in the affected locations. More so, collecting feedbacks like sands in the affected areas can help us solve the solution of flooding and hazards in those areas. Let’s take Aba as a case study. In Aba, places like Port-Harcourt road, Ariaria market , Aba-Owerri road and Ngwa road market are prone to erosion and flood, owing to the hilly shore and its soil layers. To ensure the safety of this places and a stop to flooding lest consider this location one after the other.

Ariaria market (a case study): Ariaria is faced with flooding because of refuse dump which hinders the free flow of water to the maped out area for it.

Having seen this problems we came up with a solution having three goals we want to achieve which includes

1, creating job opportunities for individuals

2, making profits from it

3, bringing solutions to the problem

The complete details on how we want to achieve this.

  • Setting up a campaign which will base on inculcating on the citizens the importance of having a through gutter system and the damages a blocked gutter system can cause to our health.
  • employ people to help us clean up those dirt's and then some waste materials are taken to some industries were they are recycled.
  • Finally we earn our commission from the recycled materials.

In establishing a sustainable land use practices, we collected data on this problem and discovered that many lands are bare and not in use and getting further to it we discovered that this occurs because of some reasons which includes conflict, lack of finance, infertility of the land, and geographical location of the land. Considering and analyzing the problems we came up with a solution and it includes

Building of recreational parks or centers, building of museums, libraries, and other environmental friendly industries.

We also intend to set up agricultural site on fertilized grounds which are not in use so as to reduce drought.

In supporting water management, we discovered a big challenge here. We notice that the drainage does not have an outlet that even after it had been made through had end junction. It is not interconnected with others and this encourages flooding, and does not support water management. So in other to overcome this problem, we give a solution which goes this way:
We make sure all the drainage system are interconnected with each other. With this, we channel water to a larger drainage system from where it will be channeled to an industry where it can e recycled and made safe for irrigational canal in our farm lands.

Finally achieving this, we plan on creating a data base website, where the first collection of data gotten through the primary sources which are individuals in the affected area are arranged systematically

In the database website, here we got a space in the website where we get feedback from people in those areas when arising problems and they could also tell us on what ways we could be of help to them.

In the space we have where we empower people through job opportunities in helping clear those refuse dump and also space in the same website where companies in need of it could contact us thereby making profit from it.
