REDUCE FLOODING

Nowadays flooding has become a high environmental problem to man, due to the high rate of climate change, increase in the water level of oceans and rivers, heavy rainfall and other factors. This problem has lead to the displacement of many families, destruction of properties, destruction of lands and also has killed many people. To tackle this problem different measure are to be taken in other to handle it properly without causing any more damage to the man and his environment. Some of these measures are to be taken;

• Awareness creation: The government should take it into proper consideration to create awareness using ancient and modern method of disseminating information in order to educate its citizenry on what to do and how to do it, to help checkmate the issue of flooding. They should be informed of the danger of flooding and its consequences and also ways to help themselves.
• Geographical location: The government should enact a law governing the geographical state of the environment and establishment of law enforcement agency that will see to it that defaulters are punish. Before a house is built the geographical state of the land should be taken into consideration so that one can know the exact height building to be erected there including the kind of foundation needed while also raising it above flood level coupled with the direction of water flow should be known, this will guide the contractor constructing the drainage system.
• Drainage systems: Good drainage systems are needed in the environments because it helps to channel water. When a drainage system is built, government should ensure that the drain are kept clean and managed properly, because once they are blocked it makes water not to flow properly causing it to over flow during heavy rainfall. Temporary Flood barriers should also be built to help channel water in various drains.
• Good roads should also be provided in other to maintain the drains and also to avoid people dumping their refuse in the drains.

LAND USE PRACTICES

• Proper Waste Management Waste should be properly disposed in order to avoid environmental pollution especially land and air pollution. When refuse are not disposed at the right place meant for it, it makes the environment dirty and encourage air pollution because when some of them decay they produce bad odor which is not good to the citizenry health, and also the non-biodegradable ones are destroying the land by making it unfit for any agricultural practices.
• Erosion Control: Nowadays erosion is one of the factor displacing people in our environment. When erosion are not properly checkmate it expand and formed gullies which in turn lead to land slide thereby destroying the buildings and properties around. Erosion sites should be land filled either with sand or with degradable refuse which in turn will help improve the nutrient of the land and makes it appropriate for agricultural use in the near feature.
• Vulnerable Lands Should be Protected: Some lands which are meant for road and building construction are suppose to used for that purpose not for other things. Government should enact a law that protect such lands. Therefore, whatever purpose a particular land is meant for that is, what it should be used for.
• Afforestation:Afforestation should be practices more instead of deforestation. When trees are planted it protects the land from more direct sunlight which might destroy some essential macro nutrient in the soil. And also help regulate the air condition around the environment.

WATER MANAGEMENT

• Introduction of Central Water Board System: Most of the waters been distributed around the environment are polluted by harmful micro organisms which we cannot see with our eyes except with help of a microscope. Therefore, there is need for a controlled water system which will be used to controlled the distribution of treated clean water within the localities . The body should be consulted before anybody digs a borehole, so that proper precaution will be taken to get good, treated and uncontaminated water into peoples home.
• Proper channeling of sewage water; water produced from sewage should be channeled in a way in which it will not pollute the environment. All the sewage should be channeled to a point where it can be properly treated and redistributed for agricultural use.

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES

The human population rests its requirements for food, shelter, and other essential goods on the shoulders of earth's living and other resources. The grassland, forest, freshwater and marine ecosystems of the world provide such goods as food, timber, forage, fuels pharmaceuticals, and precursors to industrial products. The protection and good management of these resources form the base of enormous economic and social enterprises as well. In addition, ecosystems and the species within them provide vastly under recognized services such as recycling of water and chemicals, mitigation of floods, pollination of crops, and cleansing of the atmosphere.Humans have enjoyed these goods and services for millennia, and in many regions it has been possible to make use of them without degrading their long-term viability or the life support systems they influence. However, our ever-intensifying use and misuse of ecosystem services is now doing much to imperil them, and, consequently, our own long-term welfare. Therefore, if the above stated point is implemented, it will go along way in providing job opportunities, healthy environment for the ecosystem and thereby serving as a source of income generation for the government.
