Local Peoples' Choice Winner

The Challenge | Rise to Resilience!

You are a newly appointed Regional Green Engineer. Your challenge is to develop green infrastructure solutions for complex challenges in water management and risk reduction.Create a tool to assess the characteristics of an urban or rural area of your choice, and integrate green infrastructures, or nature-based solutions, into that region’s development plans to1) reduce flood and/or drought risk2) establish sustainable land use practices3) support water management, and/or 4) produce local economic opportunities.

SolarGens

Our project increases the average efficiency of solar panels by 4% by using biotech.

We had an excellent team that have different areas of expertise. The starting point of our project was the question of whether organic components can be achieved by integrating them into solar panels... And yes, we found that some type of micro and macro algae can be useful for that! We increase the spectrum by expanding the wave spectrum of energy supplied from solar energy, we have achieved a significant increase in efficiency. The aim of pigments in algae is to ensure that visible light is used within wider borders. At the same time, it is aimed to increase the energy efficiency from a social point of view by integrating pigments into the solar panel and creating a resource with high energy efficiency.
