The Challenge | Show the World the Data!

NASA’s open data sources hold an abundance of imagery. Mapping that imagery to a digital globe makes the data interactive and may enable people to discover relationships among ecosystem phenomena. Your challenge is to develop a digital globe web-app that visualizes Earth science data using NASA’s Web WorldWind.

Space Infusion -ENMEI-

We have developed Space Infusion deviceーENMEI. With this, medical treatment in space will make dramatic progress and quality of life in space will also be improved. And on the earth, too. Plus clinical data from this device have various purposes.

ENMEI -Prolonging life‐

BACKGROUND

Private companies have entered the space industry. As space travel becomes commonplace, we, the general public, will have more opportunities to go to space. However, as with the Earth, injuries and disease are inherent. Unlike the earth, there is no gravity in space, so there are many difficulties in medical treatment.

Of all treatments in space, we focus on IV fluid in space, for IV fluid is necessary in 100 cases out of 400 possible cases in space. However, in space that has been seldom implemented, besides too big.

PROBLEM

  • Existing infusion system doesn’t work in space due to no gravity
  • when you are connected to large infusion device, the movement is restricted and you are physically and mentally bound
  • Lack of clinical data in space

SOLUTION

Space Infusion device ‘ENMEI’ can solve the above problems.

It has a compact structure that incorporates the existing infusor pump technology. Plus the air tank which is an important component of this device is small, so you can freely move with the infusion device on your arm. Considering the risk, a relief valve is also installed. In addition, the flow of nutrition and medicines injected into a vein are controlled with a regulator called Clamp.

Furthermore, the vital data obtained in the drip treatment can be used for various purposes as clinical data.

FUTURE PROSPECT

This Space Infusion device can also be applied to the earth, and the drip bar is no longer in demand!

What’s more, it will definitely be necessary even in low gravity environment such as on the Moon and on Mars.

It can also be applied as a nutritional supplement device during EVA, contributing to extending the duration of extravehicular activities.

With space-wide data obtained in infusion treatment, for example, we can analyze the efficacy of drugs in space. It may be possible to propose more appropriate treatment protocols for especially bedridden patients or osteoporosis patients who are like in the similar situation to space.

Also, these data will become increasingly important when people willingly use space as a place for treatment, taking advantage of microgravity in the near future.
