The Challenge | Smash your SDGs!

Your challenge is to develop creative solutions that use Earth observations to address the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and foster sustainable development worldwide. Use NASA and other Earth observing satellites’ data as well as information generated by crowd-sourcing and in-situ measurements to create practical applications that support environmental and societal policy across water, health, food security and/or land use domains.

From a social point of view, the World Health Organization warns that 1 for each 10 people in the world, suffers from some mental disorder. This represents approximately 700 million people. However, only 1% of the global health workforce works in this area. Anxiety, for example, affects more than 260 million people. In fact, Brazil is the country with the largest number of anxious people: 9.3% of the population.

From the public manager's point of view, studies indicate that, despite politics-related factors, it is difficult to make evidence-based decisions due to either the lack of data or the disintegration of these bases.

Our solution is based on offering free emotional support services to citizens through a chatting service, with the purpose of acquiring useful information that allows to map the overall mental health of the population of a given area in order to support government decisions towards a better public mental health care. The solution integrates data from open-data portals regarding public infrastructure with the data acquired from the chatting service and provides insightful and interactive charts for decision maker.
