The Challenge | Smash your SDGs!

Your challenge is to develop creative solutions that use Earth observations to address the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and foster sustainable development worldwide. Use NASA and other Earth observing satellites’ data as well as information generated by crowd-sourcing and in-situ measurements to create practical applications that support environmental and societal policy across water, health, food security and/or land use domains.

TAEDA

TAEDA helps to combat the deforestation.

TAEDA
  • Motto: “Re-Plan”.
  • Category: 15

What is the problem?

The challenge is to provide a solution for the deforestation of soils in vulnerable areas. Today, we have a big problem with the felling of trees, fundamental beings for life. Plants are the solution to many of our environmental problems, as they are responsible for absorbing the carbon dioxide we produce. The plant cover is in danger and the best idea we can develop to solve it is TADEA.

How it affect?

The deforestation is a problem relationated with all forms of life in the world. Among them, we have the humans that need the oxygen produced by the trees, the wood is used like raw material and like a heating system, and the animals need it to life(in some cases they eat, natural habitat or hide). Also, we note that one of the main problems at the moment is global warming, deforestation and flooding then we can help with the replanting of trees. In other words, the forests are the lungs of the earth and we should take care it.

The main idea is based on a robot that will help to combat the deforestation and the problems carried with it. The robot's name is taeda.

WHAT IS IT?

TAEDA is a prototype that helps us with the problem of deforestation. It presents a mechanism that will detect a zone in problems and after realising a process of regeneration. The robot plows and prepares the area to plant a capsule TAE.

The capsule TAE contains a seed and fertilize earth, by this way it is probably that the seed grow.

The seed will be chosen by the consumer. But we recommend the autochthonous tree of the zone because it’s the most common and effective tree has ever grown in Argentina. In this way we achieve the solution to the deforestation.

The robot has a solar panel that will explain later and a proximity sensor. Thus the propietary of the zone will be restingwhile TAEDA is working.

SOLAR PANEL

Simply put, a solar panel works by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a flow of electricity. Solar panels actually comprise many, smaller units called photovoltaic cells. (Photovoltaic simply means they convert sunlight into electricity.) Many cells linked together make up a solar panel.

Each photovoltaic cell is basically a sandwich made up of two slices of semi-conducting material, usually silicon — the same stuff used in microelectronics.

To work, photovoltaic cells need to establish an electric field. Much like a magnetic field, which occurs due to opposite poles, an electric field occurs when opposite charges are separated. To get this field, manufacturers "dope" silicon with other materials, giving each slice of the sandwich a positive or negative electrical charge.

THE GOAL

Optimised the land in situations of deforestation by fire, economic purpose or excessive extractions of raw material.

THE BUDGET

The respected budget of the MVP is $60000-$70000 aproximately.
