Time das Estrelas| Smash your SDGs!

Project Details

The Challenge | Smash your SDGs!

Your challenge is to develop creative solutions that use Earth observations to address the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and foster sustainable development worldwide. Use NASA and other Earth observing satellites’ data as well as information generated by crowd-sourcing and in-situ measurements to create practical applications that support environmental and societal policy across water, health, food security and/or land use domains.

Desplastificando

The challenge chosen is Smash your SDGs, so we aim to address the topic of Sustainable Development 14, which focuses on aquatic life. With this, we are working to reduce and prevent the pollution of aquatic waters.

Time das Estrelas

The challenge chosen is Smash your SDGs, so we aim to address the topic of Sustainable Development 14, which focuses on aquatic life. With this, we are working to reduce and prevent the pollution of aquatic waters, which mostly come from land activities and have as indicators the reduction of eplastic dentites in the oceans, by linking NASA data to the trajectory of the waste in marine currents and the impact on aquatic fauna. We addressed the problem of pollution through plastic waste that had as its latent pain the effect on the lives of sea turtles that confuse it with their food. As a solution we have developed a platform that gives the user daily challenges to reduce the disposal of plastics in the oceans by 2020. That is because we will rely on education as a tool for preventing inappropriate disposal.

Our simulation involves performing daily challenges related to reducing the use of plastics in school-age youth. Well, the system has the score and can be played cooperatively or individually using hacking and with each complete challenge the degree of complexity increases, so that the solution also has information tab with curiosities, videos. and articles by NAsa scientists and other institutions for further study. To make "Deplastifying" feasible, the project was divided into three parts, starting with private schools and later going to public schools through incentives to companies. Once consolidated we will have the objective of expanding the public, because our purpose is the dissemination of environmental education, in addition to sharing such knowledge.
