The Challenge | Spot That Fire V2.0

Your challenge is to create an application that leverages NASA's near-real-time and archival wildfire datasets along with other tools to support firefighting and fire mitigation efforts. This challenge builds on last year’s challenge of the same name by calling for innovative ideas and apps that focus on how to engage and enable citizens to assist with the entire firefighting and fire mitigation process.

Blaze Smart Navigation Mobile Application

Blaze app allows citizens to report fire and navigate other users to avoid the incident.

420 Degrees

Background

The idea of the project is to create a smart navigation mobile application to engage and enable citizens to be aware of fires in the nearby vicinity. This application provides citizens the safest route around and away from these hazards. User submitted data is cross checked with NASA satellite data to provide a higher accuracy of confirming these threats. In 2019, multiple unnecessary problems still arrive whenever fires are caused which can easily be solved with the proper application of technology. Our mobile app aims to fill the hole in this department with our innovative take on this matter.

Resources

  • Adobe XD
  • Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS)

impact

- To provide users the best alternative route around fires for their own safety using ML algorithms.

- To increase the accuracy of NASA provided satellite data by cross-checking with user submitted data.

- To increase engagement and involvement with the community by providing a sense of achievement and incentives for their contributions
