Whether natural, accidental, or purposeful, forest fires are problems that have caused human and economic costs for years and, with the problems faced in the Amazon, sanctuary of world biodiversity, this type of situation has gained greater international focus. However, it is noteworthy that other places in the world face similar problems in previous years and with some recurrence, examples are countries like Australia, which, in 2009, faced one of its largest forest fires causing more than 200 deaths, thousands of homeless people and numerous government resources required.
From this, the Fire Fighters team decided to embrace the Spot that Fire V2.0 challenge in order to create a solution that engages and enables the population in areas with the possibility and / or recurrence of fires to work together with other combat and mitigation entities of damage.
To accomplish this purpose, the entire development of the solution was based on the user's reaction to a disaster and despair situation. Because of this, the entire tool has been built so that it objectively offers features that guide the user throughout their journey. Options such as shelter availability, tiered danger zones, close groups in need of assistance in humanitarian situations, outbreaks, reporting mechanisms and as much information as possible will help the individual preserve his or her physical integrity.
With the help of EONET, NASA's Event API, thetool can incorporate satellite data to provide user information in real time.
For 48 hours between 18-20 October 2019,Space Apps provided the support needed to develop the solution from paindetection of our target audience to the final MVP presentation. Support such asproviding expert mentors in different areas, infrastructure for smoothlyrunning the creation, and the motivation needed to tackle such a marathon ofchallenges. Throughout the process, the team realized that the proposedsolution could be changed to be viable for other types of disasters such astsnunamis, earthquakes and others.
In the end, the solution is made up of a progressive app due to sporadic user adhesion. Taking os its approach mechanism the automatic triggering of messages that governments around the world use to send alerts.
