Awards & Nominations

Fires here! has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Global Nominee

The Challenge | Spot That Fire V2.0

Your challenge is to create an application that leverages NASA's near-real-time and archival wildfire datasets along with other tools to support firefighting and fire mitigation efforts. This challenge builds on last year’s challenge of the same name by calling for innovative ideas and apps that focus on how to engage and enable citizens to assist with the entire firefighting and fire mitigation process.

Fire's Here!

Alert system for fires in isolated areas

Fires here!

MOTIVATION

In 2018, California had the biggest fire in its history.

The flames spread so fast that there was no time for the population of Sacramento, where it had the biggest outbreaks, to escape the fire.

The result was a loss of more than $ 3.5 billion in damage, more than 1,857 km2 of burned area, an expense of more than $ 432 million in operations.

Currently, data from NASA show that the fires of the Legal Amazon have increased and hit areas of indigenous tribes and some ethnic groups are at risk of extinction.

Regardless of the cause of the fire, in both California and the Amazon, the greatest cost was lost lives that could not be recovered.

We have a fire alert alert failure!

How about if these people had been warned in time to get out of the place and the prevention authorities were also warned?

NASA data indicate that 67% of the hot flashes occurred outside protected areas, but with some population or community nearby.

SOLUTION

Fires Here is an innovative low-cost IoT system that utilizes NASA's public fire outbreak data correlated with Census data to identify potential fire hazard areas for the Arduino SENSORS facility to SAVE LIFES.

What is the cost of a life?

These sensors are deployed near these areas and are capable of detecting three checks (smoke, temperature rise and CO2) and, via sms, alert a central community to the direction or fire alerts that are taking place for another population like others, also for bombers. or nearby threat centers, avoid disasters like those in California and now in some regions of the Amazon. As the information also goes to our portal, where Machine Learning assesses risks and analysis through Census data, which statistics or nearest communities should be alerted to. We created the entire prototype at the event and also validated the sensors at the time of presentation.
