The Challenge | Spot That Fire V2.0

Your challenge is to create an application that leverages NASA's near-real-time and archival wildfire datasets along with other tools to support firefighting and fire mitigation efforts. This challenge builds on last year’s challenge of the same name by calling for innovative ideas and apps that focus on how to engage and enable citizens to assist with the entire firefighting and fire mitigation process.

First of all, thank you for your participation, we are Brazilian and we are happy to be able to meet these challenges!

Hello, we are Vila Oculta da Programação and we will help in the fire fighting process in both rural and urban areas.

The user will be able to define the location she wants to receive fire alerts, and also report one with a video, photo or text including her geolocation.

Our solution will bring the population closer together in an emergency, accelerate the fire fighting process in near real time in an attempt to avoid a worse situation, as every second is precious when it comes to an emergency.

How does our system work?

  1. Download JSON DATA from NASA FIRMS every 1 hour to get the fire points.
  2. Intersect NASA FIRMS JSON DATA with user-defined coordinates.
  3. Sort the coordinates by city for statistics and machine learning.
  4. Alert all users of our system that are about 6KM from fire and users who have defined a coordinate in that region.
  5. If available, enable a drone to go onspot and provide real-time imagery of the situation.
  6. The alert is made by where the user set to receive, services such as: SMS, email, call, app, etc.
  7. We draw a safe path for those who are less than 1KM away from the fire.


Utility of a drone:

  • Provide real-time imagery of the situation.
  • Check if a fire alert is false.
  • Help the user create a safe way out of the area.

*For the drone to work, it would have to have a base similar to a helicopter base, as it will be a geolocation-guided autopilot with the help of IoT


The Smoke Signal neighbors:

  • Users can report fire to other users.
  • Users can set up emergency support group with people nearby (special social network).
  • Get quick support from firefighters.


Meanwhile:

  • Our machine learning is analyzing fire patterns to alert the mostly staying population.
  • We provide tips and tricks to keep you safe in a dangerous fire situation
  • Provide these statistics for security services.
  • Provides IoT services to help make the service as real-time as possible.
