-BACKGROUND:
About 78-80% of the world's Global Warming is caused by Air pollution, which has a major component of NOx and COx. These gases are majorly produced by industrial chimneys and vehicles. Though vehicles use catalytic converters, these converters lack the capability to convert Nitrogen-oxides and Carbon-oxides. Thus, these gases are causing the rise in earth temperature, depletion of ozone, a rise in sea-levels, melting of glaciers & also making it difficult for astronomers to look into a clear sky and search for the stars at night due to a massive amount of coverage of these gases in the atmosphere.
-CHALLENGE:
To over come the production of NOx by industries which has a major factor when its comes the Global Warming
-OUR SOLUTION:
- Having the capability to integrate Biotechnology and Mechanics and the capability to access bacteria, we proposed the solution by designing a device which uses a Bacteria named as Escherichia coli (i.e E. Coli ) which we are engineering in a way that it is converting the NOx into Ammonia and ammonia is further being used as a fertilizer. So no toxic waste is produces. At first, the toxic gases will pass through a liquid nitrogen chamber (as provided in the video) which will cool the gases down when it will enter the device. Thus it will allow the bacteria to not get degraded due to high temperature of the gases.
-CONCLUSION:
- This will reduce about 82% of these toxic gases per month at an extremely reduced & affordable cost which on a yearly basis is going to make a huge impact on our planet.
-FUTURE GOALS:
- Our project also goals to empower people to take steps against climate change in their everyday life. By encouraging people and letting them know that a slight change of behavior in an individual, can cause a meaningful impact on our climate and also on the challenges we are facing today.
