Warming Planets, Cool Ideals
Global warming is a process that increases the average temperature of the earth's and ocean's atmosphere, caused by large emissions of gases, especially carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) that intensify the greenhouse effect. The theme of global warming is already an undisputed reality not only for the scientific community but also felt by society that has been perceiving an increase in the planet's temperature and despite data proving that temperature variations are an inevitable phenomenon of the earth, the Increasing activities such as agriculture and the industrial sector are directly related to the climate imbalance of the planet.
In Brazil, research has shown that 69% (SEEG - Greenhouse Gas Emissions Estimation System) of greenhouse gas emissions comes from agribusiness. In the world ranking represents 51% (WWF).
According to the ONU, in addition to the fact that in the last 30 years the consumption of beef has increased fivefold, there is still a projection that this could worsen for the next 10 years, with an increase of consumption of beef by another 20%. This will generate a highly alarming rise in global temperature.
But is it possible to reduce these levels without actually cutting beef consumption and production? Yes, it is possible. It is possible to reduce the impacts of cattle raising, as well as make it possible for agribusiness producers to reforest in larger volumes and reduce the emission of gases by the ox, so that these same farmers can benefit from several ways for that.
The solution is simple: as there are already laws and regulations that require agribusiness to apply sustainable solutions, we know that many countries (especially Brazil as the world's largest beef producer) are unable to comply with all applicable laws and treaties. The solution is to raise awareness of the cattle farmer, generating benefits in return for a slightly more environmentally friendly production. The more ecologically the production, the more benefits the creator will be entitled to. This would be done through a government application where the farmer releases information about his livestock, such as:
In-app communication between livestock farmer and government will enable more assertive oversight by public agencies. By completing and submitting the information, the livestock farmer is basically stating that he is ready to be supervised. The benefits will start to be granted gradually, that is, with each history of submission of information and subsequent inspection proving all that has been declared, the creator will be able to receive the benefits, cumulatively and gradually. The inspection made after the submission of information by the livestock farmer will be made through NASA satellite images.
Another oversight option would be through NASA-developed vant's or drones.
* These objects developed by NASA may have:
- Solar panel
- Good flight range
- Lightweight manufacturing compound (41.00 ft in wingspan and 23.62 ft in length).
- Electric motor
- GPS / GPWS
- 2 Real-time auto-resolution cameras with normal and infrared filters.
- Reduced weight (maximum 230 kg).
- Increased speed
* To control the drone or vant's will be:
- Base remotely located operations connected to it via GPS satellite.
- Joystick for flight control, and camera for the aircraft operator.
- The camera-controller, connected to the position to see if it has been forested areas.
Use of the app and program membership by the livestock farmer will be entirely optional, voluntary. There will be no punishment for breeders just for not participating in this proposal. The goal is, in fact, to create a positive record of this market with regard to care for the environment.
In practice, the producer will register in the application and provide data about his production, which variables will relate to:
- Deforestation carried out
- Reforestation performed
- Cattle feeding
- Time for slaughter
- Vaccines
- Actions aimed at reducing CO2 emissions by cattle
- Among others.
The government in turn will use NASA satellite imagery to back up the information. And, if necessary, will send an enforcement agent to validate this information. Being validated, the producer improves his score. The higher the score, the more benefits you will be entitled to enjoy.
After this process the farmer's only job will be to feed the system and to check on his progress towards sustainable agribusiness. The app will show the amount of hectares that need to be reforested and all other practical measures for a reduction in CO2 emissions.
The growth of global warming is a large-scale problem and involves numerous variables and causes, but small and efficient implementations such as the one proposed above are capable of generating major impacts.
This CO2 data from NASA, confirm a thought that if we do not take care of our planet. We can get close to Venus that has about 96% of the atmosphere and Mars that has 95% of the atmosphere composed of CO2.
