The Challenge | The Art Side of the Moon

Fifty years ago, generations were inspired when humans made a giant leap and walked on the moon. Today, NASA is committed to returning to the moon and beyond! Your challenge is to create an artistic work to communicate, inform, or inspire others about humanity’s return to the moon.

Los Moondongos: Trash in Space and Right here on Earth

Mural Artwork depicting the moon surrounded by trash made with repurposed electronic trash from earth.

Los Moondongos

Mural art depicting the moon and the International Space Station surrounded by man-made trash, and made with electronic trash from our surroundings in and around our school. We aim to create conscience about both trash in space and trash right here on Earth.

We collected electronic trash from around our school and environment, including discarded cell phones, motherboards, batteries, keyboards, CD's, etc. We used them to represent the moon, the International Space Station, satellites and trash around them.

Everyone watching or interested was invited to add a little piece and learn more about the challenges trash creates both in space and on Earth.

The mural remains visible on the courtyard of our school for all 1700 students plus teachers and staff to see it, enjoy it and learn while inquiring about it.
