The Challenge | The Art Side of the Moon

Fifty years ago, generations were inspired when humans made a giant leap and walked on the moon. Today, NASA is committed to returning to the moon and beyond! Your challenge is to create an artistic work to communicate, inform, or inspire others about humanity’s return to the moon.

WEvolve

WEvolve is a short animated drawing that is able to capture an important part of our evolution as humans—the inclusivity of women in significant world events like the future exploration back to the moon!

WEvolve

My team and I created a short yet informative animation about NASA's plan to return to the Moon. In the first scene, one of the first men to step on the Moon, Buzz Aldrin, is drawn and in his helmet's visor is the reflection of the evolution of mankind walking on Earth. I drew this because, when we think of astronauts who went to the Moon, all of them were men. Additionally, the goal of the Apollo program was to get men to the Moon and back to Earth safely.

In the second scene, there is instead a woman on the Moon which will be first of many to come. In her helmet's visor is the reflection of womankind evolution walking on Mars. The symbolism behind this is that this is a very big step towards closing the gender gap in male dominated fields. Moreover, NASA will use the Moon as a test ride for their mission to Mars that follows afterwards.

The NASA Image Gallery was mainly used however, I attained images and audio from other sources as well such as articles and YouTube. When I needed inspiration, I would look at photos from Pinterest.
