The Apollo missions showed us that lunar dust not only clung to everything and was impossible to fully remove, but it was also dangerous to humans and damaging to spacecraft systems. Your challenge is to develop a way to detect, map, and mitigate lunar dust to reduce the effects on astronauts or spacecraft interior systems.

M-Cleanner

Our team's proposal is to detect, report and mitigate the lunar dust on the astronaut's suit, through a controlled environment, a capsule, we will process detection, information and mitigation.

Phase 1 - DETECTION

Step 1: The capsule will emit ultraviolet light that will be reflected by the lunar dust, this reflection will be captured by an ultraviolet sensor.

Step 2: Inflared will be emitted by the capsule, these rays will react with lunar dust and will be detected by a thermographic sensor.

Step 3: A laser will scan the entire capsule to detect suspended particles.

Phase 2 - INFORMATION

The information that was collected in phase 1 will be crossed and presented to the astronaut through monitors, which will show the moon dust spectrum on the suit. The capsule has 3 cameras located behind and on either side of the astronaut, these images will be displayed on monitors for visual evaluation as well.

Phase 3 - MITIGATION

With information from I.A. M-Cleanner will offer the best cleaning solution.

Solution 1: The Polycarboxylic ether, ether reacts to the basalt component that is most present in the lunar dust, causing it to react to and attaching to polycarboxylic ether, thus causing it to lose its electrostatics due to its ability to neutralize and thus making the dust does not stick to the suit.

Solution 2: Air jet, these jets will be located in the pillar capsule. The capsule has filtering particles that clean the same suspended.

At the end of these phases I.A. will report the percentage of moon dust still present in the suit, and the suspended particles, and ask the astronaut if he wishes to perform the mitigation phase again.
