The Challenge | Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Sample!

You are the astronaut/robotic mission lead tasked with bringing valuable specimens from the Moon back to Earth for further study. How will you evaluate lunar samples quickly and effectively before or while still on the mission? How will you differentiate samples of potential scientific value from less interesting material?

X-LUNAR

X-LUNAR is aimed to evaluate lunar samples quickly and effectively.

Oxemis

Hello! We are the Oxemis Team. “Oxe” is a popular expression used in Salvador, Brazil, place where we live. We have linked this word with Artemis Program, developed by NASA and then came up “Oxemis”.

Our team consists of students of architecture, mechanical engineering and computer engineering. Our challenge is evaluate lunar samples quickly and effectively before or while still on the mission.

How will we solve it?

Before the mission:

NASA has a database of materials found on the moon during sample surveys. Our idea is to classify these materials according to their characteristics and values and map them by the regions in which they appear most often. So, there would be a percentage of the amount per region of the material.

During the mission:

After calculating the quantity by region, the robot would take action to verify and study the sample to confirm our mathematical hypothesis.

PROBLEM

Evaluate lunar samples quickly and effectively before or while still on the mission.

SOLUTION

Before the Mission:

Application to script the path of the robot to collect rock samples of meteorites with great potential.

During the Mission:

Robot analyzes materials that fall on lunar surface, discovering rare elements or samples never studied before.
