PROTOTYPE

To validate our solution, we built a prototype using ultrasonic sensors, arduino UNO, a ball, relay, a motor, wood. With these items, it’s possible to simulate in a small scale what we aim for.

SOLUTION

In order to solve the problems commented above, we came with the following idea:

Using the concept of the satellite constellation, we equipped this type of arrangement with instruments like X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and spectrometry measure.

With this artifice, it’s possible to identify the sample in any lunar ground depth and location.

CONTEXTUALIZATION

A satellite constellation is a group of small satellites that orbit the celestial bodies synchronously and optimally, working in a way that all of them complement the coverage area of each other.

The Spectrophotometer can measure the color of samples and compare the amount of light absorbed, transmitted or emitted to identify the material.

The X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) is an analytical technique that can be used to determine the chemical composition of lunar ores.

Our team choose the category Our Moon and the challenge Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Sample! to propose a solution to problems in location and identification of samples of lunar geographical relief that are relevant to the development of researches and local resources to help sustaining the exploration (in-situ resource utilization).

We are in searching of solutions that identify zones of interest for sample prospection, that differentiate the priorities of them, that locate water fountains, facilitate mission trajectory, reduce mission time and bring the most valuable minerals for research.
