We’re team “rocky moon” - built and created by Armenta Jesus, Pereida Alain, Gaytan Gerbin, Pesqueira Isaac, Rubio Aletza, Rubio Edgar and Suarez Cristina.
OUR MISSION
Since it's necessary to solve the problem of astronauts about the geological record currently, our mission is create a web application that can helps to know the properties of the soil and thus be able to start building structures on the MOON.
We choose the challenge “Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Sample! because we know that this it's just the beginning of something bigger. Is necessary to have updated tools to facilitate the process of mineral collections and its identification.
WHAT WE BUILD
We created an application capable of classifying different lunar rocks through supervised learning algorithms, specifically K-nearest neighbors (is a non-parametric method used for classification and regression), so a previous training was carried out to generate a set of data that function as a set of tests. As support, we have a proposal from a robotic crew that has measuring instruments to identify the different minerals in the lunar soil (Mineralogy X-Ray Diffraction Instrument).

Main Features of our robotic crew
- it will have the ability to collect information about the lunar soil.
- With the information collected, an easier route can be drawn for the collection of samples for study on the ground.
- It will recognize certain sectors previously studied to omit them and thus inspect areas that have not been studied.
- the Mineralogy X-Ray Diffraction Instrument has the size of a cupcake!
OUR NASA INSPIRATION
NASA has sent humans to the MOON multiple times and we know that in order to have successful missions it is necessary to have the best tools that can save our astronaut the most time and energy. That is why we create our rover adapted with our great idea: Our rocky moon application. Knowing the different characteristics of the lunar soil and everything related to lunar mineralogy is very important and necessary since thanks to this the next step could be taken: the colonization of the MOON. The fact that NASA is interested in hearing this type of ideas is our main motivation.
