The Challenge | Build a Planet

Your challenge is to create a game that will allow players to customize the characteristics of a star and design planets that could reasonably exist in that star system. Ensure that this game provides an educational experience for players!

Star Dust

This is an educative video game about how bodies move in a planetary system and how a star can be modified affecting directly in the planets characteristics that revolve around the sun.

The goal of the game is to educate and inform all usersthat use it, as is the operation of the universe and the solar system.


As Carl Sagan said “We live in a society exquisitelydependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anythingabout science and technology”, andour team realized that’s truth.
We depend ofeverything that happens in our solar system, we live like this way because allthe natural structure, all the natural and artificial satellites orbiting ourplanet, because the thermodynamics of the sun, and so on.
We want to challengepeople to study and discover how our planetary system works and why works likethat, what would happen if our sun were bigger than it is, etc.Functioning: It allows you to create your own stars and planets, and with that seeHow it moves depends on the specifications given.
The game makes calculations that are difficult to do but are very good. A Unity 3D code was programmed in which we have the result of having stars and planets at our discretion, in addition to the path that the planet follows around the sun, making a representation in space in a very didactic way.

We help the community making an interactive video game that allows the user to create a star with some specifications as radius, temperature, mass and luminosity.Then, the user can create a planet orbiting that star, as same time changing the star temperature, radius and luminosity.


The idea of this way to interact with the game is to realize how are some characteristics related, how can we change the values of those properties and if it is scientifically possible. The user learns new concepts in the astronomical, physics and geometry field.
The video game was made and scheduled in Unity, and every orbit and property were determined with the mathematical models of an ellipse, using the perihelion and aphelion distances, making everything geometrically.

We believe that the universe is very wonderful and that all people should give themselves the opportunity to know and explore it, with our project they can give a realistic idea of how our universe is and what factors influence it Give yourself the opportunity to learn and explore new and fascinating adventures.
