Project Details

The Challenge | Build a Planet

Your challenge is to create a game that will allow players to customize the characteristics of a star and design planets that could reasonably exist in that star system. Ensure that this game provides an educational experience for players!

The Second Universe

To build a game which will teach the characteristics of stars and planets and how to make a planet habitable. Players can explore more about the stars and planets by playing around with the characteristics of them.

The A-Team

Only person in my team and only team in Cleveland chapter to pick this project and present. A first-timer in NASA Space Apps Challenge. The core idea of the game was born during the event, added details to it and presented. The Project got selected in 'Inspirational' category in Cleveland Chapter of SpaceApps Challenge 2019.

Why did I build this project? What inspired the team to choose this challenge?

I chose this project because of my interest in planets and stars. I actually didn't have a team and I am the only person in my team. I made this project by myself.

What it does?

To teach players aged 6-12 years the following:

- Characteristics that a planet should have

- How the type of star(Stable and long lasting) affects the whole system

- Where to place(distance from star) a planet to make it suitable for life

- Position of the planet in the Galaxy

How does your solution resolve the problems posed in this challenge?

- Its a game app, which provides an easy, funny and experimental way to learn about stars, planets, its characteristics and how it affects the life system.

The game will have 2 sliders which the player can experiment with and see how any change to it affects the system.

A slider to change/adjust the star’s characteristics such as:-

- Temperature

- Size

Another slider to change/adjust the planet's characteristics such as:-

- Size

- Temperature

- Contents

- Orbitary path

- Speed of revolution

This will help the player to see how the planets behave with different temperatures and sizes of the star.

What problems and achievements did your team have?

Since this is my first appearance in Space Apps Challenge, I had some trouble in understanding the process, approach, brainstorming, etc. but with volunteers guidance, I did everything after that easily.

NASA Resources

To get additional and latest information about stars and planets, I had referred these NASA sites:

Future Plans

How can you improve your project?

On Improvements, I have version 2.0 in mind, where I am planning to build a system with more than one star in the planetary system which will have a little more challenging tasks to accomplish.

Do you plan to continue working on this project after Space Apps 2019?

Yes, because I am interested in learning about planets, especially when it is in a fun way. The players will be learning about the characteristics of planets and stars along with playing a game. I am a 7-th grader and I don't know programming. I may be looking for some programming help to develop the game with my idea.

Built With

Insert the hardware and software tools you used here. For example, what coding languages did you use? What hardware did you use (cell phones, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)?

I only used Microsoft Powerpoint to showcase my idea for this project.

Try it out

Where can we find your submission to try ourselves? Post a link to your public code repository (e.g., GitHub) or a link to an app store (e.g., iTunes, Google Play).

I have created a PPT slide for presentation and can share that.
