The Challenge | Build a Planet

Your challenge is to create a game that will allow players to customize the characteristics of a star and design planets that could reasonably exist in that star system. Ensure that this game provides an educational experience for players!

We decided to make this project because we wanted to merge the knowledge of the team members. We met on highschool a few years ago studying the bachelor of Informatics, we did projects on the past together and now we are studying Engenieering in Computer Science. One of the members is studying a Degree in Physics so we used our knowledge of programming and physics to make an educative game, focused on children, to help them learning how a solar system works, letting them explore with the components of the Star, planets and satelites, so they can learn playing.

As I said before, we made a 3D videogame whose objective is create a solar system. As our goal is to help children, we know that in our present they enjoy more using they computers and we think that this is a good way to reach them.

One of the biggest problems that we had is that we never made a videogame before, so we learnt in a few days to develop in Unity and C#. Also we don't know too much about how the atmosphere affects the temperature of the planets, we asked in the SpaceAppChallenge Chat from our Challenge and they responded that it was too complicated because it depends about too many variables.

Our achivements are that we used real data to create the star, planets and satelites, so it's nearly a simulator. The scale of the planets is representative, but the calculus of the orbits, habitable zone and scape velocity is a simulation of what happens in real life. Specially we used Kepler Science NASA resoruce to that. We have a intuitive interface so every person that plays can understand what is happening and what data do you need to put.

Also we used Blender to make the models of the celestial objects, it have a lowpoly design to make it more attractive to the public and to have a better performance so it can be played on cheap computers, especially for childrens.

We want to add in the future all the relevant data of every planet and satelite, generated automatically generated taking in account the data provided, like the atmosphere, magnetic fields and possible collisions with other planet or random asteroids.

We hope you like our project, it has been an incredible experience for us.
