The Challenge | The Memory-Maker

Traditional electronics do not work well on Venus, and memory is one of the biggest challenges. Your challenge is to develop mechanical approaches to accomplishing tasks normally done electronically within the context of space exploration.

Three: the perfect number

Since electronic devices don't work well on Venus due to the high temperature, the challenge is to develop a mechanical approach to reverse a rotational input.

Enea

Our team worked on the design of a gear box to reverse a fixed input shaft. We used a planetary gear mechanism to have a linkage as simple as possible with a low number of parts. We've looked into different approaches, such as magnetic force to transfer the torque, but the purely mechanical one seemed to be the easiest and most reliable.
