The Challenge | Fly-by-Wireless

Beginning with the design or concept of a current aircraft or spacecraft, your challenge is to engineer the design of the first aircraft or spacecraft with no wires, connectors, or penetrations! You may choose to add functions that the original vehicle does not have. Be sure to identify future aerospace applications as specifically as possible.

To reduce the weight of the wiring in the connections of the aircraft systems, the chassis itself can be used to distribute the energy and signals necessary for the operation of the servomotors and sensors. The main parts of the chassis can be isolated and negative or positive, so the main parts of the chassis are Power distribution board and current transmitters, in addition to transmitting signals on different channels which will use the pbd itself as a means to transmit. Each element each engine or each sensor will listen and speak on a channel because all the channels will be emitted in the same medium, in this way all the power and signals will reach all the aircraft and each part will take the necessary power and will be controlled through its channel. It will use the LBT system to avoid interference and talk in a clean channel.

There would be two solutions:

1ยบ the parts of the monocoque style chassis with two isolated halves.

2nd the PDB would be the interior skeleton of the aircraft

These solutions could be the main communication channel, or it could be a backup or auxiliary or secondary channel between the command and the sensors or mechanisms.


For data management of all devices, these will be sent wirelessly to the black box, and saved as backup. In addition to this each sensor once the plane landed would be connected to a receiver where it would download all the information and once it received the OK of the correct data transfer, it would be deleted (there will always be a compressed record in the black box).


To avoid the use of current or signal connectors, the own anchors that each device has to carry will be used for them to transmit the energy or signal, since each (in the case of carrying two) will be connected and fixed at the same time at each pole of the chassis, for example: one screw to the part of the chassis that has a positive charge and the other screw to the part of the chassis that has a negative load.
