The Challenge | Orbital Scrap Metal — The Video Game
Nuts, bolts, spent rocket stages, and broken pieces of satellites orbiting Earth are just a few of the many thousands of items known as orbital debris, or space junk. Your challenge is to create an orbital debris collection videogame web-app! You may build upon NASA’s Spacebirds and real data.
Orbital Janitor
Orbital Janitor is a way to raise awareness of a major problem wile still having fun.
We built Orbital Janitor to increase awareness of how much space debris is out there in Low Earth Orbit.
We used NORAD data on debris from various satellite constellations, visualized them using Cesium (an open source javascript library) and added a few interactive elements to allow users to try and simulate "cleaning up" space debris.
Unfortunately, we didn't have time to build scoring or multiplayer, so we plan on adding those features and making it fully functional
