The Challenge | Orbital Scrap Metal — The Video Game

Nuts, bolts, spent rocket stages, and broken pieces of satellites orbiting Earth are just a few of the many thousands of items known as orbital debris, or space junk. Your challenge is to create an orbital debris collection videogame web-app! You may build upon NASA’s Spacebirds and real data.

Satellite To Clean Up Space Debris

In the topic orbital scrap metal, we have to design a game. And we would like to use optical tweezers to deal with the debris. So we made this game to simulate the optical tweezers cleaner.

Space waste has been our problem since human started to discover the space. A 10 centimeter scrap can destroy entire International Space Station. Few countries took out some solution and tried to solve this problem, but just only few of them works. Even though they works properly, it costs too much and still not the best solution at all.

We found out one new technology could be use over here, and that is the optical tweezers. Optical tweezers are scientific instruments that use a highly focused laser beam to provide an attractive or repulsive force, depending on the relative refractive index between particle and surrounding medium, to physically hold and move objects.

According to the scientists and researchers in the California Institute of Technology, they said moving the spacecraft using the optical tweezers will be possible within about 20 years. Inspired by them, we think it is possible to use this technology to clean up the waste.

This game is basic on the technology of optical tweezers, the light is the high focus laser. The power of the light will depend the way to clean up debris. Also there are some objects like other normally function satellite, International Space Station, Space Ship, etc., that we couldn't clean it up to increase the difficulty of the game.

We can design a satellite do those job. It’s way better than those solution now. It could clean the garbage fast and more of them by burn them up with atmosphere. We hope this program can save the astronaut and give Earth a clean space.
