The Challenge | The Trans-Neptunian Spaceway

Like the Trans-Siberian Railroad linked remote parts of Asia to the West, the Trans-Neptunian Spaceway (TNS) takes tourists and entrepreneurs to the newly accessible region of our solar system beyond Neptune. Your challenge is to develop marketing materials and/or tools for the Trans-Neptunian Spaceway!

The Trans-Neptunian Space way

This mission takes place in year 2045, a new exploration opportunity for tourists and entrepreneurs, a new journey of exploration and adventures which brings tingle in the spines and the hunger for vast knowledge of intimidating dark space. The new path for commoners to be delighted by the anomaly of space and combining irrational with rational feelings of the explorer or travelers.

This will be the year when TNS (Trans-Neptunian Space way) colonize Triton (Moon of fourth largest and heaviest planet of the solar system: Neptune). The southern part of the triton will be colonized by the TNS where there is suitable increase in the temperature in this part with others good prospects.

Colonization of the triton will be one of the plan for the exploration of exoplanets. It will nearly take about 4 years to reach Pluto and Haumea examining the speed of other previous space crafts like new horizon, voyager I and II which has taken nearly about 11 years.

There are different components of this mission:

  1. Mission Plan

Phase 1: Preparing for Launch and Mission Detail

We will be launching after 1 year of training in earth in 2046. This will be long journey so the advance technology in hibernation will be really beneficial for the conservation of the food supply as well as other energy wastage. Before launching the space crafts, another space crafts from triton will be there in our destination dwarf planet- Haumea. The food supplying system will be described in another chapter. Voyager and other space crafts have reached Pluto as well as Haumea which are about at the distance of 39 AU. Voyager I and II have reached there in about 11 years at the speed of approximatively 3.5 AU/year or 60,000 km/hr or 17 km/s. But technology have advanced in this all years so technology have successfully given the rockets which can travel around 2.5 times more speed than others space crafts.

Phase 2: Launching and Gravity Assist

So our space crafts will be travelling in the speed of around 9 AU/years which can take approximately 4 and half year to reach either Pluto or Haumea. The advantages for us is the gravity assist by three big and heavy planets of our solar system. Gravity assist provided by these planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus or Neptune. Gravity assist from all of the three may not be possible because all may not exactly lie in their path so we will give gravity assist from 3 of them. Passengers or travelers will be provided with latest AI so that they can see the other different planets during their flyby to planets. They will be constantly wakening up from their hibernation chamber with great caution during those flybys.

Phase 3: Collaboration and Exploration-

After reaching the destination there will be another unmanned A.I based space craft with sufficient fuel, food and other supply for exploring the dwarf planet- Haumea. Those extra supplies will be provided by the triton based colonization. After successfully landing the rover, the team of 3 consisting one scientist, and two tourists or entrepreneurs will be send to the surface.As the temperature is very low, so they will be provided with advanced multiple layer space suit. Travelers will be able to explore the surrounding environment and see all the beautiful and intimidating views where as entrepreneurs can collaborate with scientists for the extraction of valuable items from the surface of the dwarf. Both either tourist or entrepreneurs will have great experience of either expanding their knowledge or business respectively.

Phase 4: Goodbye Dwarf

After exploring and finding the prospects and anticipating the future of the dwarf planet revolving at every four hours (there is another chapter for the elaboration of dwarf planets), powerful rockets provided by the triton colonizer will give people back into the orbit of dwarf planet and after researching and sending samples to the triton colonizer, the team will be returned to Triton for exploration of advanced colonizing technology. The data samples tested in triton will be further investigated and taken to the earth either as a commercial purpose by entrepreneurs or for further experimenting purpose. Tourists can really enjoy the advanced technology built in Triton.

Phase 5: Welcome to Triton

After successful exploration of Haumea, space probe with travelers will head towards the triton-moon of Neptune- where Triton colonizer lies. Space probe carrying will then land in triton base and travelers will stay for short period of time and will be ready for long voyage to home-THE EARTH.

Reasons for Haumea:

  • Near TNS dwarf planet saves some fuel and time which can be better utilized to explore the same dwarf planet.
  • It orbits nearly concedes to Neptune at some places which can be beneficial to send space probe from titan colonizer.
  • Its unusual shape and its greatest spinning speed makes it more interesting to study.
  • And for every others dwarf planets, it may contain different valuable resources.
  • Its stretched shape attracts tourists to venture the dwarf.


Food Supply

For initial supply of food, some food will be brought from the earth whereas there will be separate chambers for the food production by using advanced food production technology. They are produced in pods without assist of gravity. One of the way is Hydroponics which use 90% less water than traditional water delivery using liquid nutrients solution. The triton colonizer has advanced food production technology which will provide adequate food supply for whole exploration.

Oxygen Renewing Process

The main problem can be insufficient oxygen supply but this can be partially solved by different mechanism. First will be providing Co2 from gas chamber of fuel and converting it into oxygen by plants in pods and after supplying from plant pod, oxygen will be the sent to human pod and again they will be converted by human to carbon dioxide through respiration.

Power consumption

Initial power consumption by the spaceship will be provided by the initial power rockets supplied from earth and during gravity assist and other maneuvers solar energy can be beneficial as well as advanced fission reaction can be made to produce heat and the energy can be produced using the plutonium atom and see beck effect where heat is used to produce electricity. After reaching and during exploration of the dwarf planets, the necessary fuel will be provided by the triton colonizer. The 20 years of advanced power production in triton will be really beneficial for the proper running of the space craft.

Exploration and Possibilities.

Travelling can be both beneficial for tourists and entrepreneurs. The huge minerals available can be beneficial for the entrepreneurs. Dwarf planets care ripe with opportunities. Haumea has a red organic rich spot and we can find plenty of olivine and pyroxene. They can be transported back in earth for making gemstone and jade. Similarly, there are certain organic compounds which are still unknown that can be taken for further research and breakthrough. There are tons of icy nitrogen, methane and ethane traces that can also be converted to rocket fuel.
