Project Description

The project aims to motivate and inspire people to clean the coastal areas, at the same time help them to be involved in making donations for a valuable reason. With the help of cutting-edge technologies, the project will be able to give chance to it users to earn money, they can donate, by cleaning polluted coastal areas from trashes. The budget of donations will be supplied by governmental organizations and can also be open for donation by other organizations.

Problem Statement

According to the fact provided by Marine litter – an analytical overview – UNEP (2005), 80% of marine pollution comes from land-based sources. As the result of human activity and not taking important actions by responsible organizations the pollution of lands increases dramatically. The fact provided above emphasizes the threat of land trashes for marine ecosystem. By ocean and sea currents the trashes on coastal areas are proceeding into marine and poses a great danger for the life in this ecosystem. To prevent this danger, the first step necessary to be taken is, keeping the coastal areas clean. It is clear that, expecting everything from responsible organizations is not a right choice for the solution of the problem, so the interaction of local citizens in this process should also be considered. The involvement of local citizens in the cleaning process of coastal can only be achieved by motivation of them. Our project aims to motivate and inspire the people to clean seashores for clean nature for future generations. The motivation process of the people is realized in a way that, the one gets money according to the area he cleaned from trash. The money he got from this cleanup is available in his profile on our system and can only be used for donation purposes. The budget of donation is supplied by the governmental organizations and can be supported by other organizations. The working mechanism of our project will be described in the following paragraphs.

The Users of The System

The project’s main goal is to create a virtual environment for the people who are willing to act voluntarily for the cleaning movement of polluted coastal. The accounts of the users will be monitored regularly by the representatives of governmental organizations. The list of the polluted areas is also updated by the governmental organization representatives. According the result of image processing that user uploaded as before and after photos, the donation amount will be transferred into the account of the person. The person will be notified for the potential donation opportunities through our system and can spend their money on their account for a good reason.

How it works

The users of the system can see the list of polluted coastal areas in their homepage and choose the area near to them. The user goes to the area and reads the QR code to check in. When user starts cleaning, he is required to upload “before photo” of the area and start a cleaning session in our system. From that time, the system continuously gets the location of the user and draws the area of cleaning. When user finishes cleaning session, he has to upload the “after photo” and end the session in the system. With image processing the photos uploaded by user, system detects the validity of the cleanup. As the location of the user is got continuously by the system during the cleanup session, the area he cleaned will be defined. According to the cleaning area, proper amount of money will be transferred into user’s account.

Donation

The users of the system will be regularly notified by the potential donation opportunities. When the users feel the right reason for them, they can choose the event to donate the money they got from the cleaning of the sea shores.
