The Challenge | From Curious Minds Come Helping Hands
Your challenge is to design and build an innovative platform to integrate satellite data and information about vulnerable populations and environmental hazards in order to identify the most at-risk populations. Be creative and think outside the box. How will you identify those people that are often missed, but need aid the most?
Flood Off
According to NASA data and RelifWeb, in the sub-Saharan desert area, it is very common to have flooding, which causes political, social, health and even food instability; its stagnation in inhabited places, taking months for the water level to drop.
We are a multidisciplinary team from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. After we selected the challenge we wanted to face off, we had some trouble in setting the foundations of our idea, because we didn't understand very well what were the deliverables. The resources we used were mainly NASA data bases as maps of weather and terrain, we used also websites to learn more about the situation we want to solve and we used some app to save the code and design of our website like React.js and Firebase. We found out that the team we created was very effective and that we can work well together to reach our goals.
