Come join us for the Space Apps 2019 Virtual Event, and be part of an awesome community working together to address major challenges on Earth. While you hack, stay connected to Space Apps participants around the world by tuning into the global live stream!

Share your own journey with the Space Apps community by using #SpaceAppsVirtual.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

  1. Register now for the Space Apps Virtual Event by clicking on the "Register" logo on the right side of the page.
  2. Once you've registered, you'll see messages from Julie, your Virtual Event Lead, in your Space Apps account dashboard under "Communications." The messages contain answers to frequently asked questions, links to special workshops and videos, and tips for finding a team, using the chat channels, and more.
  3. Review the Challenges. Brainstorm potential projects and collaborations. Think about whether you want to bring your own teammates or create a new team with other Virtual Event participants.
  4. Use our chat room to connect with others. Introduce yourself in the virtual chat rooms. Share your project interests and skills. Navigate to the challenge-specific channels to find teammates working on a particular challenge. NASA experts and Space Apps Ambassadors are available to answer your questions in the challenge channels! You can use the "Launch Chat" button.
  5. When you're ready, register your team by selecting "Form a Team" on the challenge page of your choice. Or find a team in the chat rooms. (They can send you an invitation code to join their team.) You can find more information in the Team Formation Guide on our Resources page.
  6. Hack! Have fun! Learn!
  7. While you hack, stay connected to Space Apps participants from around the world by tuning into the global live stream! It features speakers from the mainstage in Huntsville, Alabama, as well as from around the globe.
  8. Submit a project page on October 20th by 11:59pm (local time, according to the last time zone of your team's members). All Virtual Event teams must submit a 30-second video as part of their submission, so the judges can see your team's pitch. You can find the Project Submission Guide on our Resources page.
  9. Judges will review Virtual project submissions after Space Apps and announce the global judging nominees in the weeks after Space Apps. You can find the Judging guidelines on our Resources page.

Thank you for participating! Happy Hacking!

NASA WELCOMES PARTICIPANTS FROM EVERY PART OF THE GLOBE

VIRTUAL TEAMING IN THE SPACE APPS CHAT ROOMS

Hack with a pre-formed team or show up on spaceappschallenge.org at the start of the hackathon to find a team. In our chat room, Virtual Participants will automatically be added to three special chat channels: (1) virtual (for general discussion), (2) virtual-project-ideas (for sharing ideas), and (3) virtual-teaming (for finding a team).

Have an idea? Use the chat platform to post a brief summary of your project idea or why you're interested in a particular challenge. Include information about the skills your team has and the skills your team needs, and remember that a well-rounded team includes participants from both technical and non-technical backgrounds.

Need a team? If you're looking for a team, don't be shy! You can contribute! Introduce yourself to the group and share your project interests and skills in the chat. Cycle through the project ideas that have been shared and follow up with the participant or team whose idea inspires you.

You are also be able to join challenge-specific channels and connect with others working on the same challenge. NASA experts and Space Apps Ambassadors will be available over hackathon weekend to answer your questions about the challenge and the data! Take advantage of this tremendous resource!

CREATING A TEAM PAGE AND SUBMITTING YOUR PROJECT

You'll be able to register your team once the hackathon begins. Create a team page via the challenge page of the challenge that inspired your project by clicking "Form a Team." Create your team page. The team page gives teams the opportunity to share their team's journey throughout the weekend. This is also where you will submit your project!

Review the Guidelines for Project Submissions and Judging for more information.

HAPPY HACKING!
