The Challenge | Spot That Fire V2.0

Your challenge is to create an application that leverages NASA's near-real-time and archival wildfire datasets along with other tools to support firefighting and fire mitigation efforts. This challenge builds on last year’s challenge of the same name by calling for innovative ideas and apps that focus on how to engage and enable citizens to assist with the entire firefighting and fire mitigation process.

Observant

Alerts People About the Fires

Approximately, more than 50, 000 wild fires occur each year – destroying about 80 million acres of land and killing more than 300 thousand people per year. Often, this massive damage incurred on our planet’s ecology and on human life is as a result of the late realization by the general public in the affected areas. And that is where the ‘Observant’ app comes in. By leveraging satellite imagery and data to detect forest fires and fire intensities, Observant alerts all individuals within a 5 Km radius. Additionally, with carefully inbuilt sensors, fire alert systems and satellite mapping API’s, our app is designed to instantly send a pin-pointed the approximate emergency fire location to the user. Furthermore, Observant allows users to send an emergency fire alert message to appropriate public safety authorities via a ‘Report Fire’ push button.
