Awards & Nominations

NST-02 has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Global Nominee

The Challenge | Spot That Fire V2.0

Your challenge is to create an application that leverages NASA's near-real-time and archival wildfire datasets along with other tools to support firefighting and fire mitigation efforts. This challenge builds on last year’s challenge of the same name by calling for innovative ideas and apps that focus on how to engage and enable citizens to assist with the entire firefighting and fire mitigation process.

Forest Fire Fighter

An early inspection system that facilitates the controllability of fires

NST-02

What İs Forest Fire Fighter ?

Preventing forest fires is an early inspection system that makes people aware of this issue and facilitates the controllability of fires in order to minimize the damage it causes.

How is it work ?

Sensor boxes are mounted on trees at regular intervals. Then, when the sensor boxes detect the first fire, they send a notification to the main server after the specified time, depending on the type of trees, to ensure the fire.

The notification sent to the main server is interpreted and transmitted to the relevant units.

If it is not close to the relevant units, the volunteers designated by the project are notified first.

Volunteers will provide first aid with the new technology called Mangiafuoco (Flame Eater), which can be easily carried in bags, pockets and vehicles.

We are planning to add a drone and extinguishing system to a more controlled structure in the following stages of the project.

Details

We used ultrasonic animal repellent (PST 101) in order to prevent animal damage in case of fire. The working principle of this sensor is to ensure that animals are removed by spreading certain frequencies that disturb the animals. These devices will be placed in the opposite direction of the transmitter modules, and when the transmitter module triggers a fire alarm, the ultrasonic repellent will automatically operate and will be away from the area before the fire reaches the animals.

We created a website to raise awareness and made the data public. To create awareness, our website says how much and what damage fires occur every day. When the 10 hectares of trees disappear, you will find it impossible to grow trees again in 20 years, and as a result 30 years will be necessary for the ecosystem to fully recover. In addition, we will keep the awareness alive with daily returns to people.

The second one is to mobilize and send notifications to the e-mails and phones of the surrounding people and call them to the area. We will be able to provide extra sensors for people to give voice commands in case of fire and prevent confusion at the moment of solution.

For the ecosystem, the same site will analyze the data received from the surrounding volunteers from rivers and soils, and then the experts will be interviewed and even the slightest damage will be renewed and corrected.
