Awards & Nominations

Your City Breath has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Global Nominee

The Challenge | Surface-to-Air (Quality) Mission

Your challenge is to integrate NASA data, ground-based air quality data, and citizen science data to create an air quality surface that displays the most accurate data for a location and time. Create algorithms that select or weight the best data from several sources for a specific time and location, and display that information.

Your City Breath

Air pollution is currently the most important environmental risk to human health. So we've built an app that helps everyone to monitor ambient air quality and to be notified if something went wrong.

Your City Breath

I'm so excited to present to you our project. The Your City Breath mobile app.

So, who we are? We are a team of 3. A UX/UI designer and QA Engineer, an Amazing Swift Developer and a Product Designer. What unites us and gives us a passion to work on this project is the fact that we are the generation that received an awful legacy - enormously big environmental problems.

Usually, people like us decide to ignore climate changes or to blame others and strike. We chose a different approach.

  • Creativity
  • positive thinking
  • data

The problem is huge. According to the European Environment Agency, air pollution currently is the most important environmental risk to human health. Poor air quality caused about 400,000 premature deaths in Europe in 2016. Globally, its 8.8 million extra deaths in 2015. Just compare it with smoking, that took 7 million lives globally in the same year.

IT AFFECTS EVERYONE

We consider it an opportunity to react to environmental problems not only from an emotional perspective but from both scientific and healthcare.

So, what we propose?

Your City Breath is a mobile app that combines data from different sources, such as satellite data and local monitoring stations.

User friendly interface allows user to understand better what's going on with air quality, and different pollutants concentration. If something's wrong, user will be alerted by the red interface elements and alert sound.

We make a request to an API for data on requested location, and that's what the API returns. We receive air quality index, recommendation based on it and main pollutants value, like carbon monoxide.

Next. We designed an algorithm, that allows us to combine even more data, from other sources, such as NASA, ESA, Breezometer, to compare forecasts with current measurements and to analyze the forecast accuracy.

That's what we managed to code till now.

Opportunities for the future

To go bigger we need a better understanding of the huge amount of data that NASA has, data analysts, and better documentation for the API.

Improved recommendations and alerts, based on air quality data and medical suggestions, could make more value for the users.

Voice assistant integration could help you easily receive the info and the recommendations.

Your City Breath could combine bot ambient air quality data and indoor. Integration with smart home devices, such as Netatmo Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor to receive tips on how to improve your indoor air quality.
