The Challenge | Warming Planet, Cool Ideas

Your challenge is to examine existing space and Earth projects and systems and adapt them into specific technologies that help stabilize or improve the Earth’s weather, and/or eliminate processes that cause global warming. Your solution could be a technology, a movement, an idea – let your imagination have no bounds!

ABC (Air-in in-a-Budget Clean-out)

An integration of existing technologies, researches and ideas into a single, holistic and collaborative program giving solution to earth's warming climate and more.

The JEEEE

Meet our team! :)

We are The JEEE. Ma. Jimda, our mother. Earl Adam, the eldest brother, Duke Ervin, the younger brother and Countess Erin the cutest and youngest of the siblings. Oh, JE is our late father’s given name initials Joseph Eric. So basically, the JEEE is a family adventure!

What motivated us to do this project?

Learning about gas emission filtration using natural recyclable materials from one of our team members inspired the team to publicly present this project. Our team adopted the core idea from her research, thought thoroughly on the huge benefit and environmental impact of the study and then transformed that idea into a global application/undertaking.

Our project impact

Enabling The JEEE's ABC project in a straight 3-year implementation, including post program evaluation, will:

  • significantly reduce carbon footprint and harmful gases in the earth's atmosphere
  • consequently lower the global temperature down the ideal level
  • significantly promote recycling of waste materials usable in the projects' product design and concept
  • promote sustainable recycling and further recycling
  • temporarily provide very low-cost gas emissions filtering devices to vehicle owners (both public and private) so they can save up and later on afford to upgrade their existing units with catalytic converters or zero emission vehicles.
  • provide a very cheap, super low-cost gas emission filtration system for factories - worldwide (some factories will not be able to shift to clean energy and so as not to put their operation down, our project is a very viable gas emission filtration technology
  • make global monitoring of air quality at any given time and/or location made possible thru the use of IoT, smart and analog phones messaging (for notifications), micro-controllers/electronics technologies, apps development technologies, apps software
  • connect different relevant agencies and share crucial environmental data and information
  • livelihood creation for the rural and urban poor communities
  • additional income opportunity for copra farmers, mussel raisers and poultry industry
  • another venue for arts with a unique double purpose creations
  • potential use of the recycling set-up for space stations and future Mars settlement communities
  • to be continued...

What made us say 'There is a problem'?

NASA (www.climate.nasa.gov) reports that as of 2018, carbon dioxide, (CO2) atmospheric concentration is at 412 parts per million (ppm). Global temperature is at 1.9 degrees Fahrenheit. Arctic ice is shrinking at 12.8% every 10 years and ice sheets are melting at 413 gigatonnes per year.

The earth needs now any, and all aggressive campaigns that will strikingly reduce carbon dioxide concentration to prevent the planet from reaching the 2 degrees Fahrenheit temperature.

Offers, sponsorship, collaboration... huh?

Our team did not have the chance to hear about any SpaceApps offer, collaborators nor sponsors. It would have been a great help. We were short of time. We saw the Challenge's social media announcement just a few days before the actual hackathon's date. Exploring for sponsorship or collaboration was already IMPOSSIBLE. :(

Moving forward, YES! Plans...

The project is still in the early development stage but there are plans already lined up in the drawing board. We cannot stop now that we have started. Time is crucial. We will continue beyond SpaceApps 2019 Challenge. IF we don't find sponsor/ who are equally passionate about saving our planet (to financially support the undertaking), we'll strive to move forward. Nobody wants to get barbecued alive, worst slowly broil to oblivion ugh!... scary! LOLS. There is hope.IF WE ALL ACT TOGETHER. Then afterwards go karaoke ;)

On project components...

Plenty of tech and non-tech stuffs will come in. There will be micro-controllers (yes Arduino and NodeMCU are first two in line, we are open to other brands if someone will sponsor), gas sensors (the popular MQ series). Software, several will be used. One will be for programming the selected micro-controller. Another for database and another for the system integration. We have to carefully select because the agencies intended to share the information database, especially on air quality reading and gas concentration levels have not been identified yet and compatibility with their infrastructure might become an issue. If the project is successful, we will be catering to global network therefore we must carefully study. We still have to search on what is the most widely used/common to all concerned. Open source is fist consideration though. And for the lead hero, of course natural recyclable waste but there will new materials to be used as well but, will be put to a minimum and will always be optimized. The method is a fusion of agile a prototyping. There will also be the introduction an ISO-like operations standard in the participating communities. Word editor programs will also be used to prepare the operations manual. Chemical agents and apparatus will also be part of the project component.

Where to find our submissions?

We are still in the early development and still working on the codes. Once demo pieces are available we will update our team page here for the links. Process diagram is the first to be uploaded when okay.
