Fifty years ago, generations were inspired when humans made a giant leap and walked on the moon. Today, NASA is committed to returning to the moon and beyond! Your challenge is to create an artistic work to communicate, inform, or inspire others about humanity’s return to the moon.

Creating a virtual reality experience of the moon

Fly Me to the Moon

The moon is 238,900 miles away from the earth. With the help of technology, we created a virtual reality experience to bring it closer to home. We each created our own version of what the moon is and could be. To create it, we used the programs Tilt Brush, Google Tour Creator, & Google Expeditions so you can experience each of our creations.

To make this virtual reality experience, we took the following steps:

  1. We created our versions of the moon in Tilt Brush.
  2. We exported our Tilt Brush creations as 360-degree videos.
  3. We took still 360 frames from our videos and imported them as scenes in Tour Creator.
  4. We added points of interest, narration, and descriptions to our scenes.
  5. We published our tour to Poly so you can experience it in VR and on the web!

  5. Download Google Expeditions and log in
  6. Go to Library > My Tours

  8. Click view in VR
  9. Experience our magic! (it's ever better with Google Cardboard!)
