Team Updates

Hi fellow Astrodwellers!

We created a ranking algorithm for evaluating moon samples so the astronaut/or robot knows which sample has priority over others for collection and shipping to Earth. Our evaluation system is based on 3 fundamental values:

  1. Scientific (origins of moon and universe)
  2. Sustainability of life on moon (water, fuel, air) and
  3. Economic (rare minerals for mining)

These are the "weights" of our ranking algorithm which are in line with the mission requirements.

The variables of our model are:

  1. minerals composition (estimate from satellite spectrometry)
  2. sample weight (estimate)
  3. distance from landing site
  4. accessibility of sample (in craters, on hills etc)
  5. time spend in-situ (for examination, drilling cutting etc)

We used data found online: NASA's lunar samples to demonstrate how our ranking algorithm works and evaluates candidate samples for collection.

On Sunday we will present our model in Python language for the demo.

Live long and prosper!
