The Challenge | Out of This World!

Create an app to pilot an unmanned aerial system (UAS), such as a NASA space drone, utilizing the 6-axis gyro sensor within a smartphone or tablet. The piloting app can be combined with multiple sensors for flight precision and the best maneuverable flight techniques for off-Earth planetary drones.

We are aiming to create an emergency application, that will notify the trained pilot when an automatic spacecraft or drone is in need of assistants. This is to allow external help for the drone in an short amount of time.

The system is to be used in case of an emergency such as if the drone is to far away the home button will autodrive the drone back to the launching station. Also if a big chunk of debris hits the drone and it goes of course the autopilot will jump in and call in help from a trained pilot and wait till it is steady enough to take control again.

In the case of unclear local sensors it will not be able to navigate in vast area of space, so it will need a pilot to guide it back, or till the sensors are self cleaned(chosen by nasa). This will mean that the money waisted on a lost or destroyed drone will decrease as most will be saved by our system
