Cuysito Emprendedor has come up with the idea of creating a game, (everyone loves gaming!) in a funny way to help the user understanding the assembly and construction of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
We know JWST consists of 9 principal parts, so our goal is to create a game with 9 levels, one level for each part. Each part is supposed to have their own theme and their own game style depending on its story to be assembled.
PLAN.
The final game will be presented as follows:
- Introductory Interface video showing Sir James Webb daydreaming about his telescope idea in a kind of 'under the stars' environment.
-Then, a Menu Interface with a bit of instructions and the option to launch the game.
- First level: Sunshield
- A dodging third-person minigame where the user will fight a supervillain named 'SUN'.
- SUN possess the first piece of the telescope 'Sunshield' and our protagonist 'James Webb' will have to steal it from him
- Second level: Primary Mirror
- The Primary Mirror of JWST looks just like a honeycomb
- A first-person puzzle minigame where the user will need to chase the honeycomb celds with the mouse-click to recover that piece.
- Third level: Secondary Mirror
- A third-person 'Super-Mario' minigame to collect the Secondary Mirror minerals from the jungle
- Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and Ninth levels: TBD
- Final level
- Once all the pieces are gathered, the Telescope will be sent to the space.
- A third-person 'spaceship' game where NASA will be launching a spacecraft carrying JWST for research purposes
- The user will have to dodge 'asteroids' and try to destroy them if possible and after a long way from Earth to the International Space Station the game will finish.
-Finally, a Thanks-video to NASA's hackathon organizers and partners for the amazing effort in this event.
REALITY
So far, we have developed the first 3 levels in the last weekend using Visual Studio Community 2019 and Windows forms (.NET Framework) with c# programming language.
We are a group of enthusiasts who loves coding but this event has been very challenging for us as our programming strengths are not clearly focused on 'gaming' or 'c# programming language' :C. At the same time, it has been very exciting to give it a try to something new and start learning a new skill. We really had a fun time debugging our codes :)
TO DO:
The ideas are there, and our next tasks will be:
- Enhancing our C# programming skills.
- Complete the game in the following months to gain more experience.
- Here are lots of thing to do (there is always room for improvement!)
- Produce our own drawings: All the icons, photos and graphs that we have included in our project have been taken from the Internet. The task will be to draw our own backgrounds, characters, platforms, icons and staff.
- Relate the games more to the actual story behind each component: We are always full of ideas, this is not a hard task really. We know the importance of sharing the story of the most powerful Teslescope ever but we also like fun (If we produce something, our aim is to never bore people). Educational but enjoyable!
- Upload our game to the web: We want everyone in the world to know the story of JWST and we also want everyone to enjoy of our game, so the next logical step is to upload it to the Internet. Make a Web-app
- Other approaches: consider VR, Android and Unity development approaches. JavaScript?
- Come back next year and defeat everyone.

Finally, a BigThanks to all NASA organizers for a very productive event.
