NASA's International Space Apps Challenge is coming to the University of Twente!


Join us the weekend of Oct 19-20, 2019 at the University of Twente to tackle the most exciting multidisciplinary space challenges, work with real NASA data, and meet with experts from the aerospace industry!

Collaborate with other space enthusiasts, engineers, designers, programmers, and students from all kinds of disciplines to develop world-changing solutions. Present your solution, ideas, stories, product or business case after 24 hours to a professional jury for a chance to win local awards and proceed to the international competition round!

Attendance is free and open to anyone, no matter the age or skill level!

Throughout the event, you will be supported by various local businesses and space industry experts in addition to veterans of NASA's International Space Apps Challenge.

This event is hosted by Space Society Twente, a team of students focused on creating opportunities for students in the aerospace industry, and co-hosted by Space Business Innovation Centre Noordwijk, an organization that supports entrepreneurs and startups that want to launch or improve a product or service that makes use of space technology.

Space Apps Challenge

Q: Do I need to be able to write code?
A: No. Space Apps Challenge provides multidisciplinary challenges for teams and participants of all disciplines.

Q: Do I need a team before registration?
A: No. While you are free to form your teams before the hackathon, it is not required. During the event, there will be an opportunity for participants to match with eachother and form a team.

Q: How many people can be part of our team?
A: Though there is no required minimum, it is recommended that teams are about 4-5 people large. The maximum size for a team is 5 people.

Registration

Q: Is registration/participation free of charge?
A: Yes, registration is completely free. In addition, overnight stay (limited availability) and food are provided free of charge to participants.

Q: How do I register?
A: First, register through the NASA Space Apps Challenge website. Once you have created your account, register for the event on the Space Apps Twente location page. You will then receive an email to confirm your registration.

Q: How do I arrange overnight stay?
A: You can only arrange overnight stay after you have confirmed your registration with one of the organizers. Please reach out to us (spaceapps@spacesocietytwente.nl) if you require overnight stay. Be aware, there are only 30 spots available for overnight stay!

Food

Q: Will food be provided during the event?
A: Yes

Q: Are vegetarian and vegan food options available?
A: Vegetarian food options are available upon request. Vegan food options are not available.

Q: Can I bring my own food, snacks and drinks?
A: Yes

Q: I have a food allergy. Will there be food for me?
A: Although we cannot provide food options for all allergies, all food options will be announced in advance with the associated allergy information. Please check with one of the organizers for more information.

    Validate your project idea through the strategic use of the Business Model Canvas. Workshop provided by Novel-T.

  8. Workshop: Spatial Data Visualization by Space Society Twente

    Discuss with experts on how to process and visualize your data.

  9. Dinner

  10. Night Mode

    The hackathon room will close for the night. Alternative sleeping arrangements (30 beds) are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact one of the organizers to claim your spot.

Sunday, October 20th
  1. Breakfast

  2. Pitch Training

    Practice your pitch! Mentors will provide feedback on your pitch based on its content and presentation.

    Each group must have at least a single participant take part in this training.

  3. Challenge Deadline

    Submit your solution to the associated challenge on the Space Apps website and send your presentation for the pitch to the organizers.

  4. Lunch

  5. Pitch your solution!

    Each group will present their solution to a jury in a 4-minute pitch. Jury members will then be able to ask questions in a 5 minute round of Q&A.

  6. Award ceremony & networking drink

    The winning teams will be announced, after which you are free to network with the jury members, mentors or other attendees.
